Eilonwy Dragon - 40" mohair dragon soft sculpture - OOAK by Emma's Bears
By Emma and Mark Nicholson
A few months ago, while attempting to get to sleep, an unexpected deluge of design ideas suddenly came flooding into my mind. I sat up, grabbed my phone and promptly emailed myself a jumbled concept list. I don't think I actually went back to read that email for another month or so. And when I did, I decided it would all be too hard to produce. But the idea just wouldn't leave me alone... and consequently 'Eilonwy' was born!
This gorgeous dragon is BIG! Which was a large part of the original concept - but that was before hubby reminded me of the small problem of needing to fit her into a shipping box! So, she will very likely be the only dragon we ever make in this exact design - any future crouching dragons will undoubtedly be quite a bit shorter!
Eilonwy is made predominately from a distressed gold mohair with chestnut tips. We've also used an antique matted gold mohair for her belly and inner ears. She has 7 joints (arms x 2, legs x 2 and 3 in her neck), and has been stuffed reasonably firmly with polyfill, glass shot and enclosed steel shot. We have left her tail a little more softly stuffed so it can be gently turned, and also so she will fit in her posting box!
We have hand pained Eilowyn's gorgeous eyes and hand sculpted the scaled dragon eye lids. Her nose has been needle sculpted and shaded with inktense, silk-dye and acrylics. She has hand sculpted horns, hand sculpted claws and hand sculpted wing spikes. All SUPER durable and strong! Her wings are also cut from the tipped mohair and have been lightly wired on the top edge for gentle posing.
Her design means that she is exclusively a laying/crouching dragon, but you can adjust the positioning of her head/neck to allow her to look up, down and slightly side to side as well (which gives her a gorgeous quizzical expression!).
Eilonwy is a one of a kind soft sculpture art piece.
